Here's Mike with his mom. |
Say hello to Peggy and James, Mike's mom and step-dad. |
Here's a shot of Mike and his Granny. |
Mike is giving Granny a big smooch now. |
This shot shows Mike's sister Bethany, her husband Lenny, their daughter Aaliyah, and Peggy. |
Peggy is about ready to open one of her presents. |
Here's Lenny holding Aaliyah. |
Granny likes to wear the bows from her Christmas presents. |
Lenny is playing Santa and passing out presents. |
Aaliyah thinks that wrapping paper is the best present of all. |
Aaliyah is already wearing her new outfit. |
Aaliyah loves her Granny Peggy. |
Here's a view of the road in Yukon 2. It was about thirty degrees outside and, as you can see, everyone in town was keeping warm indoors. |
Francesca and Peggy shiver for the camera. |
Where the trailer behind Peggy now stands, there used to stand the red house where she grew up. I guess you could honestly say that the driveway leading up to the trailer is older than the trailer itself. |
Here is the church where Mike's Papa used to be a preacher. |
Here's a better view of the church. |
This store used to be owned and run by Mike's aunt Nancy. |
Here's another picture of the store. |
Before Mike's Papa helped to build the new church, it used to be in the building to the left. Mike's aunt Nancy used to live in the house on the right. |
Yukon 2 was a coal-mining town. This train still transports locally mined coal. |
Here is a picture of the train tracks where they cross the road coming into Yukon 2. |
Here is some coal-mining equipment. |
Here is another building associated with the mines. |
Peggy attended this middle school in War, West Virginia. |
This creek is on the side of the highway. |
It was a cold enough day for these icicles not to melt, despite the sunny weather. |
Here's Mike standing with his mom in front of a lake in West Virginia. |
What a beautiful scene. If it weren't freezing outside, it would be a perfect day for a barbeque. |
Virginia and West Virginia are full of broken down shacks like this one. I would have stopped and taken pictures of them all, had everyone let me. I'm sure you can find some symbolism in the arrow pointing away from the old house, presumably towards the new and attractive future. |
Mike's Granny and Papa moved into this house when Mike's mom was 15 years old. |
Granny and Mike stand together on the porch, welcoming y'all inside. |
